Bloggers added!

On Saturday (see “Wanted: Blogger”) I mentioned that I need contributors in order for this blog to remain stable as I transition into doctoral work beginning (hopefully) this September. I received several inquiries, and I want to say “thank you” to those who showed interest, but I could’t add everyone, so I’ve chosen two.

J. Michael Strachan is the first. I asked him to write an introductory blurb and this is what he provided:

Hello, Near Emmaus readers. My name is J. Michael Strachan (but you can call me Mike), and I am thrilled to be joining Brian and the other contributors to this blog. I won’t be posting regularly for about a month or so, but for now let me tell you a little about myself.

Currently I am a guest lecturer in the graduate school at Wheaton College, an ABD PhD candidate at Marquette University (my degree emphasis is Judaism and Christianity in Antiquity) and a transitional deacon at All Souls Anglican Church in Wheaton, IL. I have a BA in Biblical Studies from The Master’s College, two MAs from Wheaton College (Biblical Exegesis and Historical & Systematic Theology), and a ThM in New Testament from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. My general research interests are historical Jesus studies, the Synoptic Gospels, apocalyptic eschatology, Early Judaism and its implications for NT studies, the use of the OT in the NT, New Testament theology, the New Pauline Perspective, and New Exodus typology.

I hope to make a significant contribution to this already exceptional blog, and I look forward to our forthcoming interactions. If you’d like to connect with me on Twitter, I am @strachanjm.

Michael will be perfect for this blog. He aims to contribute a post every Tuesday and Thursday.

Also, I am adding a fellow Mennonite (I worship at San Antonio Mennonite), Joshua Smith (not to be confused with a former contributor also named Joshua Smith who studies at Western Seminary), who has been blogging at “Everyday Revolutionary”. You may be connected to him on Twitter via @EveryDayRev or Facebook. Joshua will blog once a week and this is a blurb about him:

I am writer, amateur potter, Mennonite, and a lifelong pilgrim. I am working on my MA in Theological Studies with an emphasis on New Testament Biblical Studies at Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Shawnee, KS. My main interests include socio-scientific and socio-rhetorical criticism of the New Testament, and living in and developing intentional Christian community.

JohnDave Medina and Daniel James Levy will continue to blog here as well. Between the five of us we should be able to bring you content on a consistent basis!
